Dies Auror? is the olfactory tale of the emotions and memories of a child who for the first time, all At the age of ten, he is led to the Aurora procession on 4 February.
The child protagonist of the story, leaving the house sleepy and cold, brings with him, for comfort, some “olivette” and “torrone”, typical sweets of the Agatine tradition of Catania. Arriving at the cathedral, he is overwhelmed by the atmosphere, by the crowd, but also by the importance he attaches to the event. His senses register everything that happens around. However, bewildered by the novelty of the event, he instinctively secretly brings the sweets to his mouth. He chews them and lets himself be lulled by their flavour: almonds, pistachios, caramelized sugar? in his nose the sweet and delicious scents mix with the smells of the ancient church, where the incense, burning over the centuries, has settled on the damp stone and on the woods smoothed by time. A cold draft brings with it the honeyed smell of the beeswax of the candles which, burning slowly, light up the night.?
