‘Suma Oriental’ refers to the extraordinary collection of writings by Tomé Pires, a Portuguese pharmacist of the sixteenth century. In a very detailed description of an island in Southeast Asia, Suma Oriental first revealed that sandalwood originated in Sumba (modern-day Indonesia).
His work inspired the famous perfumer Coty to create the fragrance ‘A Suma’ in 1934, which evoked the moonlit beaches of Bali.
‘Suma Oriental’ is a bewitching perfume that enhances patchouli in a rich harmony with woody and creamy notes.
